2016

8.5"x11"

Signed, dated, and numbered (Edition of 50) Ten pages, with artist's statement included

Kimberly Turbin was the victim of a brutal and medically unnecessary episiotomy that her doctor forced on her during the birth of her son.  The entire ordeal was caught on video by a family member.

Kimberly’s complaints to the hospital and her doctor were ignored.  With the help of the non-profit Improving Birth, Kimberly sought legal counsel, and her doctor was charged with assault and battery.  A ruling in Kimberly’s favor would set historic precedence in the United States, given legal protection for women during childbirth is uncertain.

On September 10th, 2016, Kimberly Said No was performed at Daley Plaza in Chicago.  Five actors read the transcript from video word for word.  After the first read through, the female actress playing Kimberly switched to read the role of the male doctor, and the male actor read Kimberly's lines.  For more information about this project go to Kimberly Said No.
